Philips raids spurious labels factory in East Delhi

New Delhi - Philips Intellectual Property and Standards team conducted a raid in Mandoli Extension in East Delhi and seized 1,30,000 counterfeit Philips GLS 100 watt bulb wrappers. There were no lamps seized, however the raid was well in time to prevent actual damage being done, by way of these wrappers being used to sell lamps. The value of the goods seized is estimated at around Rs 15 lakhs.

As Philips views infringement of Intellectual Property Rights as an extremely serious and harmful crime, its Intellectual Property (IP) standards team has been consistently conducting such raids to protect the value and copyright of its products. 41 such raids were carried out in 2004 alone. External investigators carry out these raids in consultation with the IP team.

The arrested persons are kept in police custody for a few days and after the Magistrates decision released on conditional bail.

Philips hopes that these raids act as a deterrent to others and sends out a strong message that Philips is serious about protecting its brands.
